5 reasons why your website is losing customers

A bad website costs you customers every day. I show the most common mistakes and how to fix them.

Your website loses customers every day. Do you notice?

Most business owners do not know how many potential customers leave their website without getting in touch. According to a 2016 Google study, 53 % of mobile users leave a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. And that is only one of many reasons.

Reason 1: too slow on mobile

A large share of your visitors arrives on a smartphone today. If your website takes 4 to 6 seconds to load on mobile, those visitors are gone for good.

What you can do:

  • •Compress images and deliver them in a modern format (WebP)
  • •Move to fast hosting infrastructure
  • •Remove unnecessary scripts and plugins
  • Target: under 1.5 seconds on mobile. Anything above costs you customers.

Reason 2: no clear call to action

Visitors need a clear prompt: “Call now”, “Request a quote”, “Book an appointment”. If your homepage looks like an information brochure without a concrete next step, you lose prospects.

The fix: every page has one primary goal. Buttons and links lead the visitor exactly there.

    Reason 3: no trust signals

Visitors who do not know you ask themselves: “Can I trust this company?” Without reviews, references or certificates, potential customers hesitate.

    What builds trust:

  • •Genuine customer reviews (Google, Trustpilot)
  • •Photos of your work or your team
  • •Awards or certificates
  • •Concrete numbers, for example the projects you have actually completed
  • Reason 4: poor Google ranking

If you do not appear on page 1 for “electrician Remscheid” or “web developer NRW”, you practically have no website for that search term. Hardly anyone clicks on page 2.

What good SEO is made of:

  • •Fast load times (Core Web Vitals)
  • •Local SEO with a Google Business Profile
  • •Relevant page content with the right keywords
  • •Technically clean HTML
  • Reason 5: no mobile-first design

Responsive design is not enough. Mobile first means the mobile version is the main version, not an afterthought. Many older websites have text that is too small on a phone, buttons that are too close together or forms that are barely usable on mobile.

Self-test: how good is your website really?

    1. Open your website on your smartphone

    2. Measure the load time (Google PageSpeed Insights)

    3. Would you contact yourself if you saw this website as a stranger?

If you hesitate on any of these points, it is time to act.
