Case study · Enterprise automation
Order automation in an industrial company
Rebuilding the entire order processing as an automated end-to-end pipeline. Role: senior software developer, since 2024. The employer is not named for confidentiality reasons, and technical details are kept general accordingly.
- records per day, processed automatically
- 4.000+
- fewer processing errors
- > 92 %
Context
Thousands of order records had to be imported and processed every day. A high manual share made the process slow and error-prone, and every error caused rework and follow-up questions.
Pipeline architecture
- 1
Intake
Orders arrive via EDI and other interfaces in different formats.
- 2
Validation
Every record is checked for completeness and plausibility before further processing.
- 3
Mapping & enrichment
Data is transformed into the target format and matched against master data.
- 4
Handover to SAP
Processed orders are passed to SAP via REST.
- 5
Monitoring
Errors are logged and reported immediately instead of surfacing through follow-up questions.
Implementation
The processing was rebuilt from scratch instead of patching the existing flow. The key factors were validation at every stage, clear error paths and monitoring that reports failures before they affect daily operations.
Outcome
The processing error rate dropped by over 92%, with more than 4,000 records running through the pipeline automatically every day.
