Building Rebar
Rebar is a Kurdish platform with a business directory and dictionary for iOS, Android and the web. Founded and built single-handedly as a full-stack developer by Omid Amini, from the database to the store submission.
The target audience is the Kurdish population, estimated at over 60 million people worldwide. This figure describes the market, not the number of Rebar users.
Product
Rebar combines a searchable business directory with booking and subscriptions for businesses. Owners manage their own listings, and users find businesses and professionals in their own language.
Multilingual
German, English, Kurmanji and Sorani, including right-to-left layout for Sorani. Interface, content and emails are delivered in each user's language.
Dictionary
A Kurdish dictionary with 273,000 words from 19 sources. The sources are processed, merged and prepared for fast search with Python.
Mobile app & web
One codebase for iOS and Android with React Native (Expo), with builds and updates via EAS. The web presence runs on Next.js.
Backend & subscriptions
NestJS with Prisma on PostgreSQL, complemented by Redis. Subscriptions and in-app purchases run through RevenueCat for both stores.
Infrastructure & operations
Docker on Hetzner behind Cloudflare, CI/CD with GitHub Actions, error and performance monitoring with Sentry.
